An Opportunity to Donate to Trinity Episcopal Church and Lower Your Taxes Using Your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD)

If you are 70 ½ and have an IRA or 401(k) retirement account, you know you must take an annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD). This is treated as taxable income unless you donate it directly to a charity, like Trinity Episcopal Church.

Even if you no longer itemize deductions, you can use a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) and donate all or some of your RMD to Trinity and lower your taxes.

For example, if you are in the 22% tax bracket, a $10,000 QCD will save you $2200 in taxes while benefiting Trinity. It will also lower your adjusted gross income (AGI), which could mean having less of your Social Security payments taxed and possibly lower your Medicare premiums.

Your investment advisor or broker must send the RMD amount you donate directly to Trinity (or can provide a check made out to Trinity). However, you cannot collect the money and then donate it, or you will lose the tax benefit of the QCD.

You will need to do this by December 31st to have it count for 2019. You also need to note on your tax return that your RMD was used for a QCD and, therefore, is not taxable. You should also get a letter from Trinity acknowledging the gift.

Lastly, if you do itemize deductions, you can still do this, getting the same tax benefit. You just cannot “double count” it as a separate deduction. (Consult with your financial advisor or accountant regarding your own situation.)

There are 13-weekly sessions with a video introduction from experts in the field, a group discussion time and a workbook for personal use. Each session is self-contained, so you are welcome to begin attending at any time. Everyone in the Vero Beach community is welcome to attend. This session of GriefShare began Wednesday, October 30th and will continue every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:00 PM in the Church office conference room, except for the following Wednesdays: December 25th and January 1st. If you have any questions or would like to sign-up, please contact Fr. Josh Gritter in the Church office at 772-567-1146 or through email at jgritter@trinityvero.org.

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:30 PM and Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 9:45 AM. If you are interested in joining the Adult Choir, please contact Dr. Anthony Baron in the Church office at 772-567-1146 or through email at abaron@trinityvero.org to schedule an audition.

Boys & Girls Choir Rehearsals

The Boys & Girls Choir rehearses on Sunday mornings from 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Beyond singing, this group teaches the children what it means to be a chorister in the Anglican tradition. They rely on using Christian hymns and prayers to teach children how music can be an offering to God in our liturgy. Children ages 4 and up are invited to join. If you have any questions or are interested in your children joining the Junior Choir, please contact Dr. Anthony Baron in the Church office at 772-567-1146 or through email at abaron@trinityvero.org.

Trinity’s Youth Group

Trinity offers a Youth Group for young adults, grades 6 through 12. The Youth Group meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. The youth have dinner, play games, and have Biblical discussions.

Trinity’s youth group is engaging and Christ-centered, focused on imparting the love and knowledge of God. We use games and discussion-based teaching to serve our students. Our prayerful desire is for our students to then take the Good News of the Gospel and introduce it to their communities. We welcome all Middle and High School youth, from those who are merely curious about God to those who have a full-fledged desire to follow him. If you have any questions, please contact Fr. Josh Gritter in the Church office at 772-567-1146 or through email at jgritter@trinityvero.org.

Coffee Hour Host

The Coffee Hour Sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board in the Narthex of the Church and in the Parish Hall. They can be homemade, or store bought: a batch of cookies, coffee cake, crackers, etc. On Sunday, bring your treats to the Parish Hall kitchen and they will be set out at the proper time for you. Your fellow parishioners will thank you. Alan and Susan Miller are our hosts for this weekend’s Coffee Hour.
