Trinity Church, Vero Beach

Specifications of the 1997 Harrison & Harrison organ
The Organ of Trinity Church, Vero Beach

From 2003 to 2005, during the building of a new church for Trinity Parish, the organ was stored in specially build racks in air-conditioned units which survived three hurricanes. As the construction was nearing an end, the organ was placed in its new location at the east end of the nave. That allows it to speak along the long axis of the 722-seat nave. The organ is about 18 ft. wide, 12 ft. deep and 28 ft. high; the Great and Swell Organs are at the main level, the Solo at the upper level towards the apex, and the Pedal on either side. The detached console is placed with the choir seats in front of the organ. The casework is of mahogany, and the front pipes are of 50% tin, (spotted metal), as are all the principal and reed stops in the organ

The organ was planned for the accompaniment of the Anglican liturgy, and as a versatile instrument for solo performance with a bias towards the romantic repertoire: hence the expressive Solo Organ on the third manual, with its strings, reeds and commanding English Tuba (on 12" wind pressure), alongside wide-scaled flutes. The Pedal Sub Bass is the only extended rank. The organ has traditional reservoirs, electro-pneumatic action, and slider chests for all departments.

The specification was drawn up by Donald Ingram, previous Organist and Choirmaster of Trinity Church, in consultation with the organ builders Harrison & Harrison. This was the first instrument to be erected by the team of 30 organ builders at their new workshop in Durham, England, to which they moved in 1997 after 124 years in the same location. The designer was Alan Howarth; the installation team was led by Stephen Field; Peter Hopps and Mark Venning voiced the organ. The second voicing was accomplished in 2005 by Duncan Matthews and Ian Bruce. In 2006, the present Organist, Brady Johnson, increased the memory levels of the console's combination action from the original 8 to 128. This will allow for greater flexibility for both resident organists and guest performers.

The organ now graces the space for which it was originally designed, Soli Deo Gloria.
